Game Rules and Policies of the Greater Springfield
League Junior Amateur Hockey League

1. 18U (MIDGET) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 80 MINUTE GAMES (3  PERIODS 15 MINUTES EACH)
  • 2 MINUTE MINOR PENALTIES
  • 5 MINUTE MAJOR PENALTIES
  • 10 MINUTE MISCONDUCT PENALTIES
  • PLAYER IS TO LEAVE THE RINK AREA IF HE\SHE HAS 3 PENALTIES IN A GAME
  • PEGS IN THE NET POSTS
  • CHECKING IS ALLOWED
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE ALLOWED
  • PLAYER MUST SERVE ENTIRE PENALTY SAME AS MIAA
  • NO TIME OUTS ( REG SEASON)
  • ONE TIME OUT IN PLAY OFF GAMES
  • MERCY RULE, if at any time during the third period the goal differential between teams reaches six (6), the game clock will immediately go to running time, and will not stop for any reason (excepting on-ice injuries),other than at the direction of the on-ice officials, until the game ends.  This means the clock will not stop for goals scored, penalties, icing or any other reason while the mercy rule is in effect unless, ordered to be stopped by the on-ice officials.

2. 14U (BANTAM) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 80 MINUTE GAMES (3  PERIODS 15 MINUTES EACH)
  • 2 MINUTE MINOR PENALTIES
  • 5 MINUTE MAJOR PENALTIES
  • 10 MINUTE MISCONDUCT PENALTIES
  • PLAYER IS TO LEAVE THE RINK AREA IF HE\SHE HAS 3 PENALTIES IN A GAME
  • PEGS IN THE NET POSTS
  • CHECKING IS ALLOWED
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE ALLOWED
  • NO TIME OUTS ( REG SEASON)
  • ONE TIME OUT IN PLAY OFF GAMES
  • ALL OTHER RULES WILL FOLLOW USA HOCKEY GUIDE LINES

 

3. 12U (PEEWEE) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 60 MINUTE GAMES (3  PERIODS 12 MINUTES EACH)
  • 1.5 MINUTE MINOR PENALTIES
  • 4 MINUTE MAJOR PENALTIES
  • 7 MINUTE MISCONDUCT PENALTIES
  • PLAYER IS TO LEAVE THE RINK AREA IF HE\SHE HAS 3 PENALTIES IN A GAME
  • PEGS IN THE NET POSTS
  • CHECKING IS  NOT ALLOWED
  • ANGLING AND LIGHT BODY CONTACT IS ALLOWED
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE ALLOWED
  • NO TIME OUTS ( REG SEASON)
  • ONE TIME OUT IN PLAY OFF GAMES
  • ALL OTHER RULES WILL FOLLOW USA HOCKEY GUIDE LINES

 

4. 10U (SQUIRT) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 60 MINUTE GAMES (3  PERIODS 12 MINUTES EACH)
  • 1.5 MINUTE MINOR PENALTIES
  • 4 MINUTE MAJOR PENALTIES
  • 7 MINUTE MISCONDUCT PENALTIES
  • PLAYER IS TO LEAVE THE RINK AREA IF HE\SHE HAS 3 PENALTIES IN A GAME
  • PEGS  NOT IN THE NET POSTS (NETS NEED TO BE MOBILE)
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE NOT ALLOWED
  • CHECKING IS  NOT ALLOWED
  • NO TIME OUTS ( REG SEASON)
  • ONE TIME OUT IN PLAY OFF GAMES
  • ALL OTHER RULES WILL FOLLOW USA HOCKEY GUIDE LINES

 

5. 8U (MITE) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 60 MINUTE GAMES PLAYED 1\2 ICE
  • GAMES WILL BE PLAYED 4 VS 4 WITH GOALIES
  • NO PENALTIES UNLESS THE REFEREE FEELS THERE IS A NEED FOR A PLAYER TO SIT OUT (TEAMS WILL NOT PLAY SHORT HANDED)
  • FULL SIZE NETS USED
  • PEGS  NOT IN THE NET POSTS, NETS NEED TO BE MOBILE
  • CHECKING IS  NOT ALLOWED
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE  NOT ALLOWED
  • NO TIME OUTS
  • FACE OFFS AT THE START OF GAME ONLY
  • AT THE 2 MIN MARKS PLAYERS WILL CHANGE AND PLAY WILL RESUME FROM  THE LAST SPOT THE PUCK WAS PLAYED
  • AFTER GOAL IS SCORED PUCK IS PLAYED FROM BEHIND THE NET WITH THE SCORING TEAM RETREATING TO CENTER
  • THERE WILL BE ONE REF PER GAME AND ONE TIME KEEPER FOR BOTH GAMES
  • COACHES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SET UP AND REMOVAL OF RINK DIVIDERS (AND/OR) BUMPERS
  • ALL OTHER RULES WILL FOLLOW USA HOCKEY GUIDE LINES

 

6. 6U (NOVICE) GAME POLICIES

 

  • 60 MINUTE GAMES PLAYED CROSS ICE
  • GAMES WILL BE PLAYED 3 VS 3 WITH  NO GOALIES
  • COACHES ACT AS REFEREES 
  • MINI NETS WILL BE USED
  • CHECKING IS  NOT ALLOWED
  • SLAP SHOTS ARE  NOT ALLOWED
  • NO TIME OUTS
  • FACE OFFS AT THE START OF THE GAME ONLY
  • AT THE 2 MIN MARKS PLAYERS WILL CHANGE AND PLAY WILL RESUME FROM THE LAST SPOT THE PUCK WAS PLAYED
  • AFTER GOAL IS SCORED PUCK IS PLAYED FROM BEHIND THE NET WITH SCORING TEAM RETREATING TO CENTER ICE
  • THERE WILL BE NO REF OR TIME KEEPER  GAMES
  • ONE COACH PER TEAM ON THE ICE
